Welcome to The Hoerengracht. More than twenty years since its creation, The Hoerengracht makes its first appearance in Amsterdam. American artists, husband Edward Kienholz and wife Nancy Reddin Kienholz, worked in Berlin in the 1980s. It was there that they made this huge installation, based on extensive research in Amsterdam’s Wallen: a reinterpretation of Amsterdam’s famous Red Light District. The Hoerengracht functions as a composite street of the whole neighbourhood. Hoerengracht literally means Whores Canal, a pun on the genteel Herengracht.

Next to information on The Hoerengracht and Edward and Nancy Kienholz you can find information on other artist participating in the exhibition: Marina Ambramovic, Marieken Verheyen, Philippe Vogelenzang and Majid Karrouch, Laurence Aëgerter, Douglas Pérez Castro, Ted Noten, Tess Jungblut, Mada van Gaans, Bas Kosters and …And Beyond.
